Small workplaces with room to breathe

Planning tricks that make a 40-square-metre office feel twice the size.

Small offices fail when every function gets its own wall. We start by asking what can share: a canteen table that doubles as a meeting table, a corridor wide enough to hold the library, doors that pocket away so two rooms become one for team days.

Daylight is the other multiplier. Keep glazing clear of tall storage, bounce light off pale ceilings, and choose quiet, continuous flooring so the eye reads one room instead of many. Forty square metres, planned well, comfortably holds twelve people.
