Three circuits every living room needs — ambient, task and glow — and how to balance them.
A single ceiling light flatters nobody. Every living room we design carries three layers: soft ambient light for the whole space, focused task light where you read and work, and low glow — picture lights, shelf strips, a shaded lamp — that gives the room depth after dark.
Put each layer on its own dimmer and the same room serves breakfast, work and evening hosting. Keep colour temperature warm and consistent, hide the sources wherever you can, and let walls and art catch the light rather than staring into bare bulbs.
